Cats Swept by Buffs – University of Arizona Athletics

BOULDER, Colo. – Arizona lost to Colorado in three sets (21-25, 16-25, 16-25) on Friday night in Boulder.  
 
Sofia Maldonado Diaz led Arizona’s offense with 10 kills and Nicole Briggs followed with seven kills. Alayna Johnson, Jordan Wilson, and Sydnie Vanek tallied four kills each.
 
Freshman Sydnie Vanek recorded her first career block – a solo block in the second set.
 
Colorado took the first set, 25-21. Johnson had four kills to lead Arizona’s offense, but the Buffs held the Wildcats to a .059 hitting percentage. Maldonado Diaz served two aces but it wasn’t enough to win the set.
 
The Buffs took the second set, 25-16, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Colorado had seven blocks in the second set to hold Arizona to a -.047 hitting percentage. Briggs had four kills for the Cats.
 
The Wildcats lost Set 3, 16-25, to lose the match. Maldonado Diaz led Arizona’s attack with seven kills but Colorado’s offense hit .321 to secure the match victory.
 
Arizona will head to Utah on Sunday, October 22 at 11 a.m. MST on Pac-12 Networks to complete the two-week road trip.
