TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona beat UCLA in four sets (25-15, 25-20, 14-25, 25-23) for its first Pac-12 victory on Friday night in McKale Center. This was Arizona’s first win over UCLA since 2018.
The Wildcats’ three pins each totaled 10 or more kills in the match – led by Jaelyn Hodge with 16 kills and also three service aces. Jordan Wilson followed with 13 kills and Sofia Maldonado Diaz had 11 kills.
Arizona’s defense recorded 10 blocks and three Wildcats had three or more blocks each. Nicole Briggs led the defense with five block assists and Alayna Johnson followed with four total blocks – one block solo and three block assists. Hodge also tallied three blocks.
The Wildcats won the first set, 25-15. Arizona hit .500 while holding UCLA to a .182 hitting percentage. Hodge led the Wildcats with five kills and a .556 clip and Wilson followed with four kills and a .571 hitting percentage. Arizona’s defense tallied four blocks in the set with three Wildcats tallying two blocks each.
Arizona took the second set, 25-20, for the 2-0 lead in the match. The Wildcats took an early 5-0 lead and never relinquished the lead. Hodge led Arizona with five kills and Wilson had three kills. Arizona’s defense had three blocks to hold UCLA’s offense to a .114 hitting percentage. Briggs totaled three blocks and Hodge had two blocks.
