LANCASTER, Pa. — The fall 2021 season is finally here, and so are the Centennial Conference weekly awards. Rain washed away many of the scheduled openers last Wednesday, Sept. 1, but more than 100 contests still took place throughout opening week. This week marks the first CC weekly awards in the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball.
Award winners from the opening week of action include Matthew Kleiman of Johns Hopkins men’s cross country, Isabel Cardi of Dickinson women’s cross country, Sophie Carroll of Franklin & Marshall field hockey, Mikayla Smith of McDaniel field hockey, Greyson King of Muhlenberg men’s soccer, Sam Altman Farrell of Franklin & Marshall men’s soccer, Hannah Schepers of McDaniel women’s soccer, Laurel Buck of Johns Hopkins women’s soccer, and Simone Bliss of Johns Hopkins volleyball.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Matthew Kleiman, Jr., Johns Hopkins
Concord, Mass. | Concord Carlisle
Kleiman picked up an individual victory in Thursday’s Hopkins Kickoff Invitational. He finished the 6K race in 18:26.10, winning by 7.7 seconds over American’s Russell Sullivan. Kleiman helped the Jays to a season-opening victory.
Athlete of the Week
Isabel Cardi, Sr., Dickinson

Cardi won the 11th Annual Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge hosted by Shippensburg on Friday night with a 4K time of 14:38.6. Cardi ran with fellow Red Devil teammate Elaina Clancy for most of the race, before breaking away down the stretch to earn an 8.7 second victory over Clancy. She was one of just three racers that finished in under 15-minutes Cardi outlasted the field that consisted of seven teams and 69 runners across Division II and III.
