The Centennial Conference volleyball championship seeds are now set following Saturday’s final day of the regular season.
Johns Hopkins had already clinched its third-consecutive perfect CC season and the No. 1 seed entering Saturday, while Swarthmore (No. 2) and Franklin & Marshall (No. 3) were also locked into seeds entering Saturday. Dickinson secured the No. 4 seed with a 3-1 victory over Washington College, Gettysburg locked up the No. 5 seed with a 3-0 sweep over Ursinus, while Muhlenberg had already completed its conference slate but earned a playoff spot by virtue of Swarthmore’s win over Haverford, which knocked the Fords out of playoff contention.
The Centennial tournament will feature a new look this fall. For the first time ever, six teams will compete in the postseason as the conference has expanded its number of playoff participants from five to six. Also, the higher seed will host each round of the tournament and there is now a day off between the semifinals and championship.
Wednesday’s first round matches will pit No. 5 Gettysburg at No. 4 Dickinson and No. 6 Muhlenberg at No. 3 Franklin & Marshall.
No. 1 Hopkins and No. 2 Swarthmore will host Friday’s semifinals. The Blue Jays will meet the Dickinson/Gettysburg winner while the Garnet will take on the F&M/Muhlenberg winner.
Sunday’s championship will be hosted by the highest remaining seed with the NCAA automatic qualifying bid on the line.
