ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clemson volleyball team (11-8, 2-5 ACC) dropped a midweek match to No. 11 Georgia Tech (12-4, 5-2 ACC) in three sets in O’Keefe Gymnasium. The Tigers were led by juniors Camryn Hannah and Cate Long, who tallied nine and eight kills, respectively. Hannah also finished with three block assists, and Long had three aces.
Hannah led the charge for the Tigers in the first set, clocking five kills and one block assist with Colleen Finney. Unfortunately, Clemson wasn’t able to contain Georgia Tech’s offense as the Yellow Jackets finished with 17 kills to take the first set, 25-13. Hannah picked up the first kill of set two for the Tigers, but it was Long that pushed the envelope for Clemson with four kills, while Hannah and Finney combined for another block. The Yellow Jacket offense proved to be a challenging foe as Georgia Tech took set two, 25-12.
The Tigers came out swinging in the third set going on a 3-0 scoring run after Long and freshman Mia McGrath each tallying kills, and senior Mckenna Slavik had an ace. The Yellow Jackets were able to string together multiple points of their own to reclaim the lead, 9-5. The Tigers pulled within one after going on an 8-3 run to make it 17-16 after Long tallied two consecutive aces, Ani Clark, Mia McGrath and Finney had kills and Hannah and Finney combined for their third block on the night. Long pulled Clemson back within two points with two kills and another ace, but the Tigers fell just short in the final set, 25-21.
