Colorado Swept By No.8 Stanford

STANFORD — Colorado women’s volleyball suffered a tough loss in a sweep (25-16, 26-24, 25-20) to No. 8-ranked Stanford here Sunday afternoon at Maples Pavilion, ending its three-match win streak.
 
The Buffaloes (16-8, 8-6 Pac-12) fell in straight sets against the Cardinal (18-4, 13-1 Pac-12) despite committing five less errors in the match.
 
Sterling Parker led CU with eight kills while hitting .444 and had two blocks on the defensive end. Meegan Hart was next in kills for Colorado with seven while leading all players in blocks with five. Brynna DeLuzio was three digs shy of another double-double as she recorded 11 assists and seven digs.
 
For Stanford, Kendall Kipp had a fantastic performance with 19 total kills while hitting .378. Caitie Baird also impressed with 14 kills while hitting .375. The two players combined for five blocks on the day.
 
Colorado’s offense wasn’t able to produce the numbers it needed as it went up against Stanford’s back row, getting outhit .336 to .175 as the Cardinal tallied 55 digs in only three sets.
 
CU will travel back to Boulder to face off against Oregon on Thursday, Nov. 10 and Oregon State on Saturday, Nov. 12
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
SET ONE: Stanford took an early 9-4 lead after a three-point scoring run resulted in Colorado taking its first timeout of the set.  Shortly after, Elia Rubin’s fourth kill gave the Cardinal a 15-10 advantage. CU called its second and final timeout of the set while trailing by six at 18-12. Stanford scored another three unanswered points to make it 23-14. Baird picked up a kill to produce set point for the Cardinal. Kipp finished it off with her sixth kill to win the set 25-16 for Stanford. The Buffs were outhit .441 to .107 in the set.
 
SET TWO: After going down 3-1, Colorado scored four straight points to go up 5-3. Both teams fought back-and-forth to a 9-9 tie before CU scored three consecutive points, making it 12-9. After a 16 all tie, Stanford answered back with a 3-0 scoring run of its own and forced the Buffs to take a timeout at 19-16. Back-to-back errors from the Cardinal made it tied at 20-20. The tie continued to 23-23 before Hart and Jill Schneggenburger combined for a block to reach set point and force a Stanford timeout. Kipp kept the Cardinal alive her 12^th kill to make it 24-24.
