SUNY Cortland graduate student right-side hitter Zoe Staats (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson), freshman middle blocker Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) and head coach Erin Glickert have received three of the four top postseason women’s volleyball honors from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) in a vote of the league’s coaches. Staats is the 2022 SUNYAC Player of the Year, Reilly is the league’s Rookie of the Year, and Glickert has repeated as SUNYAC Coach of the Year.
Five Red Dragon players were named to the all-league team. Staats and sophomore middle blocker Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) were chosen to the all-conference first team, junior outside hitter Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) was picked for the second team, and Reilly and sophomore libero Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) earned third team honors.
Staats has played in all 97 sets this season, to date, and leads Cortland with 300 kills (3.1 per set). She’s got a .335 attack percentage and 53 blocks. Staats has registered double-figure kills 15 times, highlighted by 18 in a five-set win over Haverford and 17 each in five-set regular-season wins at Brockport and New Paltz. She also posted 16 kills in a four-set victory at Geneseo and 14 kills in the Red Dragons’ NCAA opening-round win over Rowan.
Reilly has appeared in 86 sets this season and leads Cortland with 92 blocks (1.1 per set). She also has 113 kills and a .343 attack percentage. She recorded a season-high eight blocks in Cortland’s five-set win over Haverford and seven blocks on three occasions, including the Red Dragons’ five-set win over Brockport in the SUNYAC finals. Reilly notched eight kills each versus Cabrini and Springfield.
Guedez has played in 71 sets over 20 matches and has totaled 66 blocks (0.9 per set), 123 kills and a .266 attack percentage. She finished with nine blocks in a four-set win at Geneseo, seven blocks in a home win versus Western New England, and six blocks in a four-set loss to Springfield. She’s also posted three double-figure kill totals, led by 15 kills in a five-set win over Haverford and 12 in a five-set win at Brockport.
Sturgess has appeared in all 97 sets and has amassed 253 kills (2.6 per set), 26 aces, 244 digs (2.5 per set) and 25 blocks. Her 14 double-figure kill matches include 21 in the SUNYAC finals versus Brockport and 17 in the SUNYAC…
