COUGS OPEN SEASON AT OMAHA INVITE

Washington State women’s volleyball is in Omaha, Nebraska this weekend for the Omaha Invite to begin the 2024 season. The Cougs will open against Wyoming on Friday, August 30 at 12 p.m. PT, before taking on Houston on Saturday, August 31 at 10 a.m. PT and then rounding out the weekend against host school Omaha on Sunday, September 1 at 10 a.m.

ABOUT WAHSINGTON STATE

After making their eighth straight NCAA Tournament Appearance in 2023 and advancing to the Sweet Sixteen, the Cougs are returning five from the 2023 team, including Logann Golden, Weronika Wojdyla, Katy Ryan, Emma Barbero and Lucie Blažková. In addition to the returners, nine newcomers have entered the program, including grad transfers Sage Brustad (Eastern Washington), Jaden Walz (Bowling Green) and Jade Warren (College of Idaho); junior transfers Keniya Cleveland (Feather River College), Taryn Vrieling (Idaho) and Kylie Wong (Arizona); and true incoming freshmen Italia Bernal, Haumea Marumoto and Breccan Scheck.

SERIES HISTORY

WSU will begin the weekend with a tough opponent in Wyoming who a year ago defeated South Dakota and Northern Colorado in the first two rounds of the NIVC.  WSU’s last match against Wyoming was in 2016, in which the Cougs won 3-1. WSU will play Houston on Saturday, who is coming off their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance last season. The Cougs and Coogs are 1-1 all-time, with WSU earning the most recent victory, a 3-0 sweep in the 2001 season under then-head coach Cindy Fredrick. The Cougars will close out the invite, taking on host school Omaha who also berthed into the NCAA Tournament last season. WSU and Omaha will play their first-ever match against each other.
