JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League announced its first installment of weekly awards for the 2022-2023 athletic year, in which Taylor’s fifth-year senior, Ryan Czerniak, was named the CL Attacker of the Week.
Despite being dubbed an All-Crossroads League performer in each of her four seasons, Monday’s award marks the first time in Czerniak’s career that she has received a CL player-of-the-week honor.
The recognition comes in the wake of a strong opening-weekend performance, in which Czerniak surpassed the 1,000-career-kill milestone while energizing the Trojan offense with 25 total kills en route to two match wins. Taylor’s lefty right-side hitter exercised both power and precision, posting 3.57 kills-per-set while maintaining a .426 kill-percentage, both of which currently lead the Crossroads League.
Czerniak’s award-winning performance was highlighted by her play against William Penn, against whom she struck 17 kills without a single error throughout the match’s final three sets.
No. 22 Taylor (2-0) now returns to Upland, where Czerniak will lead the Trojans into competition at the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament, set to commence inside Odle Arena on Friday morning, August 26.
Taylor’s first match in the tournament is set for Friday afternoon at 12:00 pm, when the Trojans will host Clarke.
