ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Department of Athletics announced the resignation of head men’s and women’s volleyball head coach Daniel Miranda, which will be effective on June 16, 2022.
A 2012 graduate of fellow Empire 8 institution Nazareth, Miranda has spent the past six years guiding the Soaring Eagles on the men’s side, with the last three guiding both the men and the women. Miranda was the longest tenured coach in men’s program history.
In his six years with the men, Miranda posted the second-most wins in program history, finishing his stint with a 68-94 record. His 17 wins during the 2022 season was the second-highest in his career with the Purple & Gold, as he posted a 20-12 record during the 2018 season. This season, Miranda helped guide the Soaring Eagles to its first United Volleyball Conference tournament since the 2018 season, batting Vassar through four sets in the first round.
“Dan played an instrumental piece in the success of both men’s and women’s volleyball during his time in Elmira,” said Director of Athletics Rhonda Faunce. “He leaves both programs in a great place, and his support for both programs is something that I am extremely grateful for. He has served as a great recruiter and was always willing to help out doing whatever the department needed. As I am sad to see him leave, I am very happy for Dan as he embarks on his next endeavor.”
In his six seasons, Miranda had 11 Empire 8 All-Conference selections, three United Volleyball All-Conference nods, the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year in Tyler Anderson during the 2020 season, and earned UVC Coach of the Year honors during the 2018 season. Additionally, Miranda had three AVCA Players of the Week during his time with the men’s program, the most recent being Oscar Munoz Trinidad ’23 during the 2022 season.
In his three years with the women, Miranda guided Elmira to a 27-36 record, including a 13-win season during his first year, 2019. Most recently, Miranda helped the Purple & Gold to a Empire 8 Tournament first round victory over Keuka during the 2021 season while making the conference playoffs in each of his three seasons at the helm.
