Davis Names Eppright as Assistant Coach

EVANSTON, Ill. β€” Northwestern has hired Maggie Eppright as assistant volleyball coach, Head Coach Shane Davis announced on Thursday.

“We are thrilled to welcome Maggie to Evanston,” said Davis. “After a decorated career at Fresno State and five years on the sideline, Maggie is exactly the kind of coach and leader to help our program continue to make strides in the best volleyball conference in the country. As you would expect of a former NCAA Woman of the Year finalist, she’s a high-character individual and will be a wonderful addition to the Northwestern community.”

Eppright spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Fresno State following an illustrious four-year playing career with the Bulldogs from 2013-16. She also served as a volunteer coach for one season at Cal Poly in 2017.

“I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to represent Northwestern Volleyball,” said Eppright. “I believe in what Coach Shane Davis and the Northwestern community have been building here within the program and the world-class opportunities they strive to provide for every athlete in their program.”

She made an instant impact in her first year coaching at Fresno State, helping the team to a 22-11 record, second place in the Mountain West and a first-round win in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. Eppright went 56-47 overall as an assistant with the Bulldogs and coached seven players to All-Mountain West Team honors in her four years there.Β

A former libero herself, Eppright specializes in developing liberos, passers and defenders. She also has extensive experience in statistical data collection and implementation of scouting reports. In 2018, she helped sophomore libero Reagan Leonard break Fresno State’s single-season digs record, which had previously been set by Eppright in 2015. The Bulldogs recorded more digs as a team that season than ever before with 1,999 under her tutelage.Β

Eppright helped junior Desiree Sukhov win the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year Award in 2019.Β

As a player, Eppright was a four-year starter and team captain as a junior and senior. She earned Mountain West All-Academic honors in all four years and was named a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award in 2017.
