Championship Central

Third-seeded Franklin & Marshall and fifth-seeded Gettysburg rolled to 3-0 victories in the opening round of the Centennial Conference volleyball tournament on Wednesday night.

In Lancaster, Pa., the Diplomats downed sixth-seeded Muhlenberg 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-21). The Diplomats held the Mules to a negative hitting percentage on thanks in large part to seven blocks while also racking up a number of points at the service line (11 aces). Coco Shultz and Sydney Levins each recorded four service aces to go along with their seven and five kills, respectively. Gianna Mangiamele hit a team-high .571 on the night with 10 kills in just 14 attempts, while Jada West and Lauren Arnold hit north of .300 with six and four kills each.

In Carlisle, Pa., Gettysburg avenged a recent 3-0 loss to Dickinson with a sweep of their own over the host and fourth-seeded Red Devils (25-20, 25-16, 25-21). Zanze Kuba-McCoy led the Bullets in kills with 13 while Kylie Ulrich followed closely behind with 12 kills. The win also marked the 200th career coaching victory for Bullet head coach Leah Bernier.
