DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team secured its 1,000th win in program history Thursday with a 3-1 (25-15, 26-28, 25-13, 25-23) victory over Loyola Maryland at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Devils were led by sophomore Kerry Keefe with a career-high 24 kills and just three errors to hit .538 percent for the match. Graduate student Gracie Johnson added 15 in the win as Duke hit .295 percent as a squad.
Duke split time between setters Millie Muir and Emma Worthington as they dished 12 and 35 assists, respectively, while libero Madison Bryant tallied 17 digs. Six different Blue Devils registered two blocks while Johnson added five aces to lead the squad at the service line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke opened the match hitting an impressive .417 clip in the first set, its best performance in a set this season. Johnson tallied three consecutive aces to help Duke to an early 6-0 lead en route to the 25-15 victory. Keefe notched five kills in the opening set.
- The Greyhounds bounced back with a .417 hitting percentage of their own and tied the match (1-1) after two sets.
- Duke’s offense continued to click in the second frame despite dropping the set as Johnson hit .308 with six kills and just two errors on 13 swings.
- Even at 1-1, the Blue Devils continued their strong offense, posting a .324 clip in the third. Johnson and Keefe combined for 10 kills and just one error to lead the offensive contingent.
