DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team collected its eighth straight win with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21) victory over Winthrop Thursday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
How it Happened
- Senior Lizzie Fleming and sophomore Rachel Richardson combined for 26 kills as Fleming tallied 12 for a .290 hitting percentage.
- Graduate setter Devon Chang dished 42 assists while libero Nikki Underwood reeled in 23 digs to pace the offense. Sydney Yap and Richardson also added career highs of 17 and 15, respectively.
- At the net, sophomore Rylie Kadel tied her career-high seven blocks, including one solo, while Taylor Atkinson and Chang tallied three.
- Fleming opened the first set with a .571 hitting percentage with four kills and no errors while Underwood quickly collected 11 digs to prevent the Eagles from finding their offensive rhythm.
- Despite struggling offensively, Duke rallied in the second to take a 2-0 lead before dropping the third set. Winthrop hit .250 in the third frame and used 4.0 total team blocks to hold Duke to a .105 clip.
- Both teams couldn’t find their offensive footing in the fourth and final set, but Kadel’s four blocks helped spearhead Duke to victory.
Notes
- Duke improved to 8-2 with its eighth straight win.
- It was head coach Jolene Nagel‘s 675th career victory and her 472nd at the helm of the Blue Devils.
- Duke’s eight straight wins are the best in program history since 2014 when the team won 10 in a row.
