DURHAM, N.C. – Led by senior outside hitter Rachel Richardson‘s 13 kills, Duke volleyball (3-3) swept the FIU Panthers (0-6), 3-0 inside Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
After stretching a first-set lead to 24-20, the Blue Devils closed out the first set of play with Richardson’s kill to take the first set 25-21. In the second set, Duke trailed 15-9 following a timeout, before Kerry Keefe gave the Blue Devils a spark, going on a 9-2 run to take an 18-17 lead. Freshman Breonna Goss closed out the second set with a solo block, capping off a 7-4 run in the second frame.
In a back-and-forth affair to begin set three, Duke settled the tempo holding the advantage of set point at 24-19. The Panthers would rally back to force extra points before Duke used a kill from Rylie Kadel and two attacking errors by the Panthers to complete the sweep.
