CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Duke was swept by North Carolina, 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 16-25), Friday evening at Carmichael Arena.
The Tar Heels hit .295 percent for the match and limited the Blue Devils to a .161 clip. Duke falls to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play after suffering back-to-back losses to the Tar Heels.
Duke was led by Kerry Keefe with 11 kills, while Rylie Kadel hit .400 percent. Setter Grace Penn dished 19 assists, while libero Mailinh Godschall led the defense with 11 digs and three aces. Breonna Goss, Kadel and Keefe each notched four blocks at the net.
How it Happened
- North Carolina opened the match hitting .355 percent and tallied four early blocks to limit the Blue Devils to a .135 hitting percentage. Emani’ Foster led the Heels with five kills, while Duke’s Keefe hit .500 out of the opening gate.
- Trailing 1-0, the Blue Devils tallied 11 blocks in the second set, but couldn’t settle into an offensive rhythm. Goss, Kadel and Keefe each recorded three blocks at the net, but UNC found a way to hit .226 and take a 2-0 match lead.
- Keefe led the team with four kills in the third and final set and helped Duke see its best offensive output of the match. The Heels hit .303 percent to take the match with help from Chelsea Thorpe’s .833 clip.
