DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team closes its 2022 home slate Sunday against Miami at 1 p.m., at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils will honor their senior class prior to the match.
LAST TIME OUT
Duke tallied its 16th win this season Wednesday evening over Wake Forest with a 3-2 (22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 31-29, 15-11) victory. Senior Gracie Johnson and graduate Devon Chang tallied career performances to spearhead the Blue Devils. Johnson tallied a career-high 29 kills and just six errors to post an impressive .338 hitting percentage while Chang dished a career-high 57 assists in the match. Johnson added 11 digs, an ace and a block to showcase her all-around volleyball game. Kerry Keefe and Rachel Richardson added 15 and 10 kills, respectively, as Keefe hit .406 percent while Chang led the defensive unit with 16 digs to go along with three blocks. Rylie Kadel added six blocks and also tallied three aces in addition to Chang.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES
Duke is 17-13 overall against Miami but have lost five of the last six matchups. The two squads last met Oct. 9 where Miami secured a 3-0 sweep in Coral Gables. Duke’s last win over Miami at Cameron Indoor Stadium was Nov. 23, 2018.
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Miami enters Sunday’s match 17-9 overall, 10-5 in the ACC and have won seven of its last eight. Offensively, the Hurricanes are led by four with 200 or more kills: Angela Grieve (363), Janice Leao (231), Flormarie Heredia Colon (216) and Peyman Yardimci (211). As a team, Miami is hitting .239 percent as veteran setter Savannah Vach leads the way with 1,034 dimes. Five players have tallied 100 or more digs, led by Yaidaliz Rosado with 297 while Leao leads the blocking contingent with 119. Miami has the fifth-best hitting percentage in the ACC.
LAST TIME WE MET
This is the second time this fall Duke and Miami will matchup. The Hurricanes secured a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-22, 25-11) in Coral Gables on Oct. 9. Duke was led by freshman Taylor Atkinson with 11 kills and a .286 hitting percentage. She also added four digs and a block while setter Devon Chang tallied 26 assists. Chang and Georgia Stavrinides collected three blocks each.
