DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team weathered the storm and outlasted Boston College, 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-13, 22-25, 17-15), in a marathon match Friday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
How it Happened
- Four Blue Devils tallied double-digit kills and two double-doubles as Duke collected its 15th victory this season.
- The Blue Devils were led by Gracie Johnson with an impressive 24 kills, followed by Rachel Richardson with 14, Rylie Kadel’s 11 and Kerry Keefe’s 10. Devon Chang dished 53 assists while Richardson and Sydney Yap tallied three aces each. Nikki Underwood added a career-high 32 digs while Lizzie Fleming paced the defensive unit at the net with six blocks.
- Duke jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as the Eagles struggled to find their offensive rhythm. In the second set, Boston College evened the match (1-1) with an impressive .357 hitting percentage, led by Kate Brennan’s six kills to hit .857.
- All tied up, the Blue Devils responded as Johnson and Fleming combined for eight kills and three errors and limited the Eagles to just a .026 offensive clip.
- Both squads found their offensive efficiency in the fourth frame. Chang assisted on 16 of the 17 kills, led by Johnson’s five.
