Duke Receives AVCA Team Academic Award


DURHAM – For the 19th time in program history, the Duke volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization Thursday.

First instituted in 1992, the AVCA Team Academic Award goes to collegiate and high school volleyball programs that maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.30 for the academic year.

Duke was one of 10 ACC schools to earn the honor in 2023, joining Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, NC State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. 

10 Blue Devils – Taylor Atkinson, Devon Chang, Lizzie Fleming, Gracie Johnson, Kerry Keefe, Rachel Richardson, Sydney Tomlak, Nikki Underwood, Moorea Wood and Sydney Yap  – earned All-ACC Academic Team distinction this year, while 10 members of the Duke volleyball team earned a spot on the 2022-23 ACC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 for the current academic year.

Duke opens the 2023 campaign Aug. 25-27 at the Purdue Invitational.
