ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with Edwin Sosa ’25 of the Elmira College men’s volleyball team earning conference Player of the Week honors after helping the Soaring Eagles to a 1-1 record over the weekend, which included a 3-0 victory over No. 13 NYU on Saturday afternoon.
Sosa, a junior middle blocker, led the Purple & Gold in kills during their two matches over the weekend against NYU and SUNY New Paltz, slamming 15 and 21, respectively. Sosa posted a .216 hitting percentage in Elmira’s match against NYU and a .441 hitting percentage against New Paltz. Sosa also tallied a pair of set assists in both games while notching two service aces during the weekend. The middle blocker tallied five of Elmira’s eleven blocks in its 3-0 win over NYU and another against New Paltz.
This is the second Player of the Week honor Sosa has received this season, the other coming on January 29 when he helped the Soaring Eagles to a 2-1 weekend in the Elmira College Invitational.
Elmira returns to the floor on Wednesday, March 13, when they host the Golden Flyers of Nazareth University at 7:00 p.m. inside Speidel Gymnasium.
