Elizabethtown SAAC hosts annual Special Olympics swim meet

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — On Sunday, March 17, the Elizabethtown College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), in partnership with the NCAA and Special Olympics of Lancaster County, hosted the Special Olympics swim meet on campus at the Alumni Pool. Blue Jay student-athletes from all sports volunteered to help put on the meet.

Elizabethtown wrapped up NCAA Div. III Week last week and among the many highlights of the service of the College’s student-athletes, nothing has been a brighter spot than the hosting of the Special Olympics swim meet each year in the spring.

This is the sixth time that Etown SAAC has hosted a Special Olympics swim meet. 50 athletes from Lancaster, Berks, Lebanon, Chester, Northumberland, Snyder and Area M competed across 13 events. During the event, around 100 Elizabethtown student-athletes volunteered at the meet.

“The Special Olympic swim meet allows our student-athletes to build strong relationships with the competing athletes in the area”, said Ava Lammersen “We are grateful to host the swim meet and engage with the swimmers as they show of their skills and passion for the sport. We are fortunate enough to band together with Special Olympics of Lancaster and cannot wait to host the athletes again next year!”

Founded in 1983, Special Olympics of Lancaster County is a year-round sports training and competition program for individuals from ages 6 and up with intellectual disabilities. Lancaster County offers 15 different Olympic-type sports at no cost to the athletes or their families.
