Elmira Drops 3-0 Decision in Road Match vs. Cardinals

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles men’s volleyball team fell to sixth-ranked St. John Fisher on the road on Friday night in straight sets. Edwin Sosa ’25 paced the squad with ten kills, while Jordan Peiser ’24 finished just one behind him with nine.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Soaring Eagles got two straight kills from Gabriel Staron ’27 for their first two points of the match. After a kill by Peiser and a couple of Sosa service aces, the Purple & Gold held a 5-3 lead early in the first set. The Cardinals scored five of the following seven points to give them an 8-7 lead before another Peiser kill and a St. John Fisher attacking error gave Elmira the lead. However, a 7-1 Cardinals run put them up 15-10. Despite the Soaring Eagles bringing the set to within two points at 20-18, St. John Fisher was able to hold on to its lead and take the opening set, 25-19. Peiser led EC in kills during the set with four.
  • Elmira once again got off to a solid start to open the second, holding a 10-6 advantage during the set. However, the Cardinals responded with a four-point unanswered run to tie the set. The Soaring Eagles kept a narrow lead, holding a 17-16 advantage until St. John Fisher scored six of seven points, putting it in front, 22-18.
