Elmira Trio Garners Empire 8 Men’s Volleyball All-Conference Recognition


ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its 2024 individual awards and all-conference teams on Thursday, April 11. The awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches. Elmira’s Edwin Sosa ’25, Max Cohen ’25, and Alex Vega ’26 were among the recipients to be honored.
 
A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Sosa was named to the Empire All-Conference First Team after earning a pair of Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team selections each of the last two seasons for the Soaring Eagles.
 
Sosa finished the season ranked fifth in the conference with a .293 hitting percentage and topped the E8 with 285 kills (3.85 kills per set). He also ranked second in points with 327.5 (4.43 points per set).
 
A native of Massapequa, New York, Cohen earned his first Empire 8 All-Conference recognition as he was named to the Second Team. Cohen finished the season first in the conference with 9.12 assists per set and second overall with a career-high 757 assists for the Soaring Eagles.
 
Cohen also recorded career-high totals in kills (37), service aces (14), digs (103), and total blocks (21). Earlier this season, Cohen became just the fourth player in program history to surpass 1,000 career assists and finished the 2024 campaign with 1,581 through 193 sets played.
 
A native of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, Vega joined Cohen with his first Empire 8 All-Conference recognition on the Second Team. Vega ranked first in the conference this season with 2.77 digs per set to go along with 191 total digs.
 
Vega, who was named to the 2023 FrogJump All-Freshman Team, matched his career-high with 191 digs while surpassing his previous career-best mark in digs per set. He also tallied career-highs in kills (17), assists (48), and points (19).
 
A first-year defensive specialist from Uintah, Utah, Cache Littrell ’27, was named to the Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year Team for the Soaring Eagles. Littrell appeared in 29 sets this season for the Soaring Eagles and finished with 20 kills, 27 digs, 5 service aces, and 4 total blocks.
