Recently-crowned VNL champions Italy and the Dominican Republic will appear in the first match of the women’s tournament in Paris, in Pool C. The encounter between Europeans and Caribbean will open the second day of action at the South Paris Arena (only the men will play on the first day), July 28, starting at 9:00 local time (7:00 GMT).

Also on July 28, the two other teams that stepped on the podium at the VNL 2024, bronze medalists Poland and silver medalists Japan, will clash at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT), in a Pool B encounter that will mark the return of the Polish to the Games for the first time since Beijing 2008.

The remaining eight teams will make their debuts on July 29, with Türkiye and the Netherlands opening the day at 9:00 local time (7:00 GMT) in Pool C, Brazil meeting Kenya at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT) in Pool B, defending champions the USA battling China at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT) in Pool A and hosts France going against world champions Serbia in what will be their first-ever Olympic match at 21:00 local time (19:00 GMT), also in Pool A.

The women’s tournament in Paris will also feature pool play matches on July 31, August 1, August 3 and August 4. The quarterfinals are scheduled for August 6, with the semifinals set to take place on August 8. The medal matches will happen on two different days, with the dispute for bronze set for August 10 and the gold medal match ending the volleyball Olympic calendar on August 11.

The Olympic volleyball tournaments at Paris 2024 will be conducted under a new format, starting with three round-robin pools of four. The pool winners, the pool runners-up and the two best ranked third-placed teams will advance to the quarterfinals for the start of the single elimination bracket that will lead to the semifinals and eventually to the medal matches to determine the Olympic podium.
