PITTSBURGH – Volleyball’s Rachel Fairbanks and wrestling’s Mac Stout were named the Pitt Athletics PNC Achievers of the Week.
Volleyball’s Rachel Fairbanks recorded a career high 48 assists on Sunday afternoon in the Panthers’ win at Miami. Fairbanks tallied 39 assists in Friday’s five-set match at Florida State, totaling 87 assists on the weekend and the most ever in a two-game span for the junior. The Tustin, California native would also finish with 18 digs and five blocks on the weekend as Pitt split their two matches against their Florida opponents.
Wrestling’s Mac Stout defended his 197-pound title at the Clarion Open on Sunday to open the 2023-24 college wrestling season. Pitt’s next man up at 197 pounds following the graduation of 2023 NCAA champion Nino Bonaccorsi, Stout started his redshirt freshman campaign in dominant fashion, winning all five of his bouts to win his second consecutive Clarion Open crown. Stout conceded no takedowns during the tournament and recorded one pin and one major decision, justifying his No. 16 preseason ranking by InterMat by beating opponents from Ohio State, Michigan State and Columbia on Sunday.
