Fighting Illini Ready for Final Home Match Against Michigan

Illinois volleyball hosts Michigan for the final regular-season match at Huff Hall on Saturday night. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. CT on B1G+. Following the match, the program will have a special Senior Day ceremony to honor the Fighting Illini’s six seniors: Kennedy Collins, Vanessa Pan, Jessica Nunge, Raina Terry, Maddie Whittington and Sophie Gregus.

The 2023 campaign marks the 50th season of Illinois volleyball, with the Illini holding an overall record of 1,065-622-7 (.629). Chris Tamas enters his seventh season at the helm for the Orange and Blue, boasting a 130-79 (.622) mark.

LAST TIME OUT

The Fighting Illini topped Ohio State in a five-set thriller on Wednesday night. As a team, Illinois recorded 66 kills while hitting .291 in the match. The Illini’s 12 aces tied a season best for the squad, a record set at Ohio State earlier this year.

Three Illini players tallied double-digit kills with Raina Terry pacing the squad with 27, just one shy of tying her career best. Jessica Nunge finished with 13 kills, and Kayla Burbage added 11 of her own. Brooke Mosher recorded her 15th career double-double when she dished out 50 assists and tallied 16 digs. She also led the way with seven aces. Defensively, Caroline Barnes registered a team-high 21 digs, and Cari Bohm added five blocks.

ILLINOIS VS. THE FIELD

The series between the Wolverines and Fighting Illini favors the Orange and Blue, 52-27. Illinois won the last meeting, 3-1, in Ann Arbor in 2022. During his time at the helm for the Illini, head coach Chris Tamas owns a 4-4 mark against Michigan.

REIGN OF TERROR

Over halfway through her senior year, Raina Terry has tallied 20 or more kills in 10 matches, including a new career-best 28 kills at Ohio State on Oct. 13. Terry went back-to-back following the performance at OSU with 24 kills against Rutgers, marking the first time in her career she tallied 20 or more kills in back-to-back matches.

A staple in the Illini lineup, Terry has paced the squad in kills in all but two matches and has registered 491 kills in this season alone with 4.63 kills per set. One of the top left-side blockers in the nation, the Marengo, Ohio, native owns 12 solo stuffs and 59 block assists for…
