Final two stops for Paralympic Games qualification

The last two stops for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games qualification for sitting volleyball will be Lagos in Nigeria and Dali in Yunnan, China.

Lagos will host the ParaVolley Africa Zone Championships for the first time from January 29 to February 3 in 2024 to determine the teams that will claim the available spots allocated to the African Zone – one for each gender – to the Paris 2024 Games.

β€œI am delighted that Nigeria has been chosen by ParaVolley Africa to host the PVA Sitting Volleyball Zone Championships, particularly since this will make history with the event being hosted in West Africa for the first time,” World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner said.

β€œAll ParaVolley members from Africa are eligible to compete, with the gold medal winners for men and women being able to participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games sitting volleyball competition. I wish Nigeria all the best in their preparation and planning.”

With the ParaVolley Africa Zone Championships only taking place after the World Cup, where Egypt was the highest non-qualified team, the qualified position to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will not be determined until the outcome of the African zone championships. The final stop is Dali, China for the World ParaVolley Final Qualifier which will take place between April 3-10, 2024.

The Final Qualifier is a WPV invitational event designed with the objective to fill the last remaining qualification spots for the Paralympic Games with the best available teams in the world.

The men’s and women’s final qualifiers will each have the eight (8) highest world ranked teams not yet qualified as a result of the World Championships, World Cup or Zonal Championships.
