Fingall & Lovett’s Double-Digit Kill Outings Not Enough as Lady Vols Fall to #12 Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH – Tennessee attackers Morgahn Fingall and Erykah Lovett provided double-digit kill outings for the Lady Vols Friday night as they battled No. 12 Pittsburgh at Fitzgerald Field House. In the end, Pitt took the match in three sets (20-25, 21-25, 23-25).

Fingall provided 13 kills for UT and hit .281 while cashing in a service ace. The right-side attacker finished one dig shy of a double-double at nine.

Lovett put down 11 kills, scored an ace and closed out the match with seven digs.

Redshirt freshman Klaudia Pawlik also played well for the Orange & White as she finished with six kills on a .714 hitting percentage. The middle blocker also picked up four digs and a block.

Tennessee (6-5) hit well at .281 in the opening set, tallying 15 kills in the frame. Lovett led all players with six kills in the first. Four of Pawlik’s six kills came in the opener.

On the other side of the net, Pitt (8-2) also attacked well at .385 percent. It finished with two fewer kills than UT but committed three fewer errors in attack. Pittsburgh’s service pressure helped it to three aces as it won the opening set, 25-20.

In the second, Fingall led all players on the court in kills as she put down six and hit .308. Both teams dipped in hitting percentage, but the Panthers upped their kills in the set to 17. Courtney Buzzerio led the way for Pitt with five kills, helping the home side to a 25-21 second-set win.

The third set came down to the wire as UT made a late push, winning five points in a row to cut the score to a one-point lead at 24-23 in favor of Pitt. Unfortunately, one of Tennessee’s six attack errors in the set ended the late rally as Pitt won the third, 25-23.

Fingall and Lovett combined for nine kills in the set – Fingall with five and Lovett at four – while Pawlik and freshman Kiki Granberry chipped in with two.

Valeria Vazquez Gomez and Buzzerio led the Panthers with five kills each in the frame.
