Fingall Tabbed AVCA National Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second time in her career, the American Volleyball Coaches Association named Tennessee’s Morgahn Fingall as its Division I National Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

The recognition comes after Fingall earned SEC Player and Offensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday. This past week, she led the 15th-ranked Lady Vols to victories at No. 24 Marquette and Loyola Chicago, spearheading a dominant Big Orange attack that hit for .389 and averaged 16.86 kills per set during the two contests.

A graduate student right side from Fairfax, Va., Fingall averaged 6.57 points per set and 5.71 kills per set—both of which led the SEC for the week—while hitting .421. In just seven sets, she recorded 46 points, 40 kills, 10 digs, seven blocks, two aces and one assist. This marked the fourth time in her winning SEC Player of the Week, and it was the sixth time she earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

During UT’s match at Marquette, Fingall opened the contest on fire, recording nine kills on 10 attacks in the first set to set the tone early. For the match, she finished with 18 kills on .471 hitting, a season-high six blocks and three digs to lead the Lady Vols to a sweep against the ranked Golden Eagles. Against Loyola Chicago, she matched her season-best in kills with 22 on .381 hitting to go along with seven digs and two aces.

Fingall first received the honor on Sept. 13, 2022, for her performance in the Rocky Top Classic. Head coach Eve Rackham Watt and her staff have now coached two athletes to three National Player of the Week honors, as Erica Treiber earned the prestigious recognition as well in 2018.

Up next, Tennessee is back on Rocky Top for a three-match homestand, beginning with contests against Chicago State and Evansville on Thursday and Friday, respectively, this week. Tennessee volleyball will be teaming up with Second Harvest Food Bank to help feed those in need. Fans who bring two non-perishable food items to the match will receive one complimentary ticket. Just bring your food items to TBA, and you’ll receive your ticket from the Tennessee Fan Experience tent. Both matches will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
