In their first international tournament together after an extended Covid and injury break, Norwegian Vikings Anders Mol and Christian Sorum are back in the beach volleyball world elite. In Tuesday’s final at the FIVB 4-star event in Cancun (Mexico), the Beachvolleyvikings will face Cherif Samba and Ahmed Tijan. The Qataris beat Austria’s Martin Ermacora and Moritz Pristauz-Telsnigg in the second semifinal.
Anders Mol was recently sidelined due to a hip injury but came back in good shape with his partner Christian Sorum at the first of three 4-star events in Cancun. After beating US legends Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena on Sunday and Brazil’s Guto/Arthur on Monday, they had a rather tough encounter with Czech surprise team Perusic/ Schweiner in the first semifinal. In a rematch of the 2019 Ostrava 4-star final, the Vikings had again a very slow start. But after losing the first set, the Vikings came back strong and won the second set without major efforts. The tie-break turned out to be another easy walk with the Vikings staying on top of the Czech newcomers (17:21, 21:14, 15:9) who had recently claimed gold at the Doha 4-star event.
In the women’s gold medal match Canadian world champions Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan will go up against Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima of Brazil. You can watch the medal matches on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Youtube channel.
