Five Things to Know: Virginia Tech vs. Queens University


Blacksburg welcomes Virginia Tech volleyball back home after their ninth consecutive win this season against Fairleigh Dickinson in Pennsylvania. The team will be facing Queens University on Friday Sept. 15 at 6:00 p.m. ET, as the Hokies look to set a program record for the best start to a season.
 
There are a lot of events in store for the undefeated Hokies’ matchup against the Royals, so get ready for this week’s Volleyball matchup with five things to know.
 
1. Mental Health Awareness Match. Come cheer on your Virginia Tech women’s volleyball team to raise awareness about mental health! Green is the national color of mental health acceptance, so be sure to wear your green, as we will have green ribbons on the concourse.
 
2. Messages of Love Wall. Come out to share messages of love and awareness by writing on our Messages of Love Wall. Help brighten someone’s day and remove the stigma associated with mental health awareness.
 
3. Be on the lookout for our Giveaway. We will be handing out volleyball stress ball key chains! Make sure to arrive early as they’re only available while supplies last.
 
4. Shutout season. The women’s volleyball team is off to an incredibly strong start, kicking off this season undefeated in nine games for only the second time in school history. Out of those nine games, seven have been shutouts, with the Hokies winning all three sets. Let’s fill those stands at Cassell Coliseum and get excited for match number 10!
 
5. All-Tournament Team players. Following Tech’s victory against Fairleigh Dickinson, three Hokies were named to the All-Tournament Team including senior middle blocker Cara Lewis, sophomore setter Hanna Borer and graduate student outside hitter Leandra Mangual Duran. Against FDU Lewis recorded 11 kills with an overall .786 attack percentage along with Mangual Duran who registered a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. On Friday, be on the lookout for these top athletes.
