Four Flyers Earn AVCA NCAA DII All-American Honors


LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Wednesday (Dec. 6) its NCAA Division-II All-Americans for women’s volleyball, with four members of Lewis University women’s volleyball listed among the honorees. Senior right side Juliana Van Loo (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) was named Second Team All-American, senior outside hitter Megan Schlechte (Strasburg, Ill./Stewardson-Strasburg) was named to the Third Team, and both senior setter Lauren Stenman (Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) and senior middle hitter Bella Ray (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) earned Honorable Mentions.
 
Van Loo recorded 407 kills (3.31 per set) on the season, second-most for the Flyers and her .358 hitting percentage ranked No. 33 in DII, and fifth-best among non-middles in the country. The Burbank, Calif. native also recorded 64 blocks and 109 digs on the season. Van Loo was previously an All-American Honorable Mention in 2021.
 
Schlechte led the Flyers with 424 kills on the season, tied for 33rd-most in DII, with her 3.48 kills per set ranking No. 78 in the country. The Strasburg, Ill. native also recorded 433 digs, making her one of only two players in all of DII with at least 400 kills and digs, along with Macy Brown (Newhaven). She had an attack percentage of .235, 38 service aces, and 46 blocks on the season.
 
Stenman led Lewis and was No. 9 in NCAA-DII with 1317 assists this season, with her 10.80 assists per set placing her at No. 17 in the country. The Maplewood, Minn. native picked up 125 kills (1.02 per set) with a .275 attack percentage, 256 digs, 48 blocks and 37 service aces. She was also named an All-American Honorable Mention in 2021.
 
Ray led the Flyers with 106 blocks this season, with her 1.16 blocks per set being good for the No. 30 spot in the country. The Plainfield, Ill. native earned 268 kills (2.95 per set) with a .347 hitting percentage that ranked No. 43 in DII. She was a Second Team All-American in 2022.
 
This year’s Flyers tied the 2021 team for most All-Americans (4) in program history. In 2021, Lewis had Jamie Poppen named to the second team, while Stenman, Van Loo and Ava Venema were honorable mentions.
