Four Soaring Eagles Earn UVC All-Academic Honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Four Soaring Eagles from the Elmira College men’s volleyball team were rewarded with United Volleyball Conference (UVC) All-Academic honors to recognize their hard work in the classroom.

Matt Amoddio ’22, Alex Adelman ’22, Jordan Peiser ’24, and Oscar Munoz Trinidad ’23 each received 2021 UVC All-Academic accolades. This marks the ninth year the UVC has recognized academic achievement. Recipients of this Academic List must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), a 4.10 (on a 5.00 scale) or an 82 (on a 100-point scale) following the completion of the spring semester. In addition, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically, display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution.

Amoddio appeared in 15 matches for the Soaring Eagles this season, registering a career-best hitting percentage of .333 while going for 42 kills. Adelman, who joins Amoddio as the only two seniors from the 2022 class, appeared in all 24 matches for the Soaring Eagles during 2022, as the defensive specialist finished with 58 digs and seven service aces.

Munoz Trinidad, who finished as an All-UVC honoree this season, also earned Elmira College Male Athlete of the Year honors after posting one of the most impressive seasons in recent history. This season, Munoz Trinidad set the program record after recording a .905 hitting percentage against Hilbert on February 12, notching 19 kills on 21 attempts. Additionally, he ranks second on the Soaring Eagles in kills (256), digs (114), assists (266), and third in blocks (52.0).

Additionally, Peiser earned second-team All-UVC Second Team honors after the sophomore ranked third on the team in kills (201), second in service aces (35), and fourth in digs (79). This season, Peiser recorded a career-high 18 kills in Elmira’s five-set loss to UVC No. 1 seed SUNY New Paltz.

Elmira was also honored as a 2022 UVC All-Academic Team for registering a team GPA of 3.002 in Term II.
