French women and Turkiye men earns historic spot in VNL 2024

The 2023 FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup has been full of thirsts and firsts as teams strive to win the Challenger Cup trophy and qualify for the 2024 Volleyball Nations League. The 2023 Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup featured eight national teams. This includes Colombia, France, and Croatia, as well as five teams making their debut: Kenya, Mexico, Sweden, Ukraine, and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Men’s Volleyball Challenger Cup includes Tunisia, Chile, Qatar, Turkiye. There are also four first-time participants including China, Dominican Republic, Thailand, and Ukraine. All teams competed for a chance to qualify for the 2024 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

France women’s team conquers 2023 Challenger Cup; Qualifies in VNL 2024

The French women’s volleyball team has secured their second international title at the 2023 Challenger Cup, following their victory at the Golden League 2022. In a historic match against Sweden, witnessed by nearly 3,000 spectators at Espace Mayenne in Laval, the team claimed the trophy and earned their first-ever spot in the 2024 Volleyball Nations League.

France’s victory over Sweden was decisive, with a score of 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15). The match also highlighted star players, including Helena Cazaute who contributed 25 points, and Lucille Gicquel who ended the game with 23 points.

The team conquered all three matches on the way to their most sought-after 2023 Challenger Cup title with 10.75 points towards the ranking. They earned their largest point on the straight-semi final win against Ukraine with 5.05 points. Followed by the quarterfinal shutout with Vietnam with 2.76 points, and 2.93 points against Sweden.

Apart from their impressive performance on the road to winning the Challenger Cup title and securing a spot in the VNL 2024, France’s women have also made significant strides in the FIVB world rankings. The team just climbed four spots, from 21st to 17th, with a current total of 168.23 points, surpassing teams such as Colombia, Czech Republic, Mexico, and Ukraine.
