ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women’s volleyball team salvaged a split here Saturday at the Eastern University Quad. In the second match of the day, Gallaudet rallied from down 0-2 to McDaniel College to win 3-2 with three solid set wins; 15-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-9, 15-8. Earlier in the day, Gallaudet played a tight four-set match with Elizabethtown College (5-1) as the Blue Jays won 3-1 (23-25, 14-25, 25-23, 24-26), as three of the sets were determined by two points.
In the McDaniel match, juniors Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) and Emily Wright (Penn Valley, Calif.) led the Bison with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Junior Leila Sicoli (Austin, Texas) made a match-high 23 digs and fellow junior Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out a match-high 20 assists. Gallaudet served up 14 aces led by five from freshman Enza Visco (Riverside, Calif.) and four from Giuntoli.
Gallaudet (3-5) hung tough with Elizabethtown but couldn’t get the first or fourth sets to go its way as they lost by two points in each one. Wright made a match-high 21 kills while freshman Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) connected on 18 of 48 swings and completed the double-double with 18 digs. Giuntoli passed out 22 assists and Sicoli made 21 digs. The Bison were strong upfront at the net as they made eight blocks. Sophomore Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the way with five block assists while Perry (four), sophomore Jayne Taylor (Austin, Texas) and Lummer (three each) and Wright (one) got in on the action.
