Garnet Chargers Sweep Bard, Improve to 3-1 in Conference

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. Sophomore Maddie McCarron led all players with nine kills on .571 hitting to pace the Union College women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-18) sweep of Bard College in a Liberty League matchup on Wednesday night at Stevenson Athletic Center.
 
Four players had seven kills or more for Union (14-5, 3-1 Liberty League) on the night, led by McCarron with her nine kills and one error on 14 attempts. Junior Shannon McGrath, sophomore Shelby McKim and first-year Georgia Pinciaro all chipped in seven kills apiece, followed by sophomore Erin Stevens with six. Junior Georgia Pool added a match-high 17 digs and first-year Allie Kronenberg dished out a match-best 33 assists on 39 Union kills.
 
Bard (4-16, 0-4 Liberty League) started off the night with the first three points of the opening set and held its last lead at 9-8 before Union rattled off a 9-1 run to take the lead at 17-10. The visitors closed with eight of the final 11 points to secure the first frame. McCarron led all players with four kills in the set.
 
Union had a stronger start to the second stanza, opening on a 10-4 run to take control early. A 6-0 run soon after secured the advantage and an 8-2 stretch closed the set to put the Garnet Chargers up by two sets. Six different players had at least one kill in the frame, with no player recording more than two.
 
The visitors used an 8-0 run early in the third set to take command and never look back in completing the sweep. McKim put down a team-best five kills and Pinciaro added four in Union’s most productive set, as…
