GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the second consecutive week, Georgia Tech senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while NC State’s Ava Brizard has earned her first ACC Freshman of the Week honor.

Bergmann led No. 5 Georgia Tech to its second-straight undefeated weekend to open the season, garnering MVP honors of the GT Invitational after piling up 47 kills with a .392 hitting percentage, 23 digs, nine blocks and five aces. Bergmann started off Tech’s dominant weekend by tallying a match-high 16 kills and hitting .448 to go along with seven digs, a pair of blocks and two aces in a sweep of Dayton.  An outside hitter from Munich, Germany, she followed that with 23 kills and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Arizona State. Her 23 kills were the third-most in a match in the ACC this season. Ranked second nationally in kills per set, Bergmann averaged 4.7 kills per set in three matches this weekend.

Brizard continues to make an impact for NC State in her first season. She tallied 32 kills over the weekend, including nine against Colgate, 12 against Elon and 11 vs. Tennessee. She hit .247 and earned 34.5 points for the Pack.
