Germany and Ukraine posted wins on Friday to join undefeated Slovenia and Italy in the final four of the 2023 Sitting Volleyball Women’s European Championship at Palamare Valter Vicentini.
Sonja Scholten and Corinna Cavier each scored 15 points, while Michelle Schiffler added 13, as Germany defeated Poland 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-10) in the quarterfinal. Scholten fired 11 points from the service line – more than half of the points made by the opponents on offence.
Ukraine displayed great form with their 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-10) win over Hungary to secure a semifinal spot. Antonina Zhuk and Anastasiia Vladychynska combined for 25 points, outscoring the entire Hungarian lineup.
Germany will meet Slovenia in the semifinal at 16:00 local time, while Ukraine will play Italy at 15:45.
The two undefeated teams, Slovenia and Italy, dominated their rivals in their respective semifinal matches.
Valentyna Brik and Lena Gabrscek teamed up with 13 and 10 points, respectively, to beat Croatia 3-0 (25-10, 25-5, 25-14); while Francesca Bosio put on an 18-point scoring show to lead Italy to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-5) victory over Great Britain.
