Every Wednesday during the club season, VolleyballMag recognizes a Dream Team of eight girls volleyball players (15s to 18s age groups) who were standouts the weekend before. The team, most weeks, consisted of the following:

We include our eight-player Dream Team below, as well as others we considered, based exclusively upon nominations received.

Note to coaches and directors: while there is no science to how we choose members of our Dream Team, performing on bigger stages will give players an edge, as will nomination forms that describe with specificity how well a player performed the previous weekend.

This week, we have three outsides, because we received no DS nominees.

VolleyballMag DREAM TEAM for February 7
S: Isabelle Bardin, 6-3 Jr., Metro 17 Travel (DC) – Bardin averaged over 9 assists per set and led her team in blocks and to victory at the JVA Charm City Challenge.

RS: Emmy Schrom, 6-0 Sr., Revolution PGH 18 White (PA) – Schrom, a Duquesne recruit, played a huge role as a six-rotation right side for a team that took second in 18 USA last weekend at the Ohio Valley Qualifier. “Emmy took a number of big swings in critical moments to provide the team with some serious firepower,” said coach Heidi Miller. “She attacked from the left, right, and also often out of the backrow.: Schrom finished the weekend with 70 kills and added 20 aces with a lethal top spin jump serve. Schrom topped off her successful run in Columbus with 27 digs and four blocks.

OH: Kate Kalcynski, 6-0 Fr., Legacy 15-1 Adidas (MI) – Kalcynski led the Central Zone 15 Open champs in kills, passer rating, hitting percentage and solo blocks, a performance that coach Tyler Strom described as “absolutely incredible.”

OH: Mimi Mambu, 6-0 Jr., Metro 18 Travel (D.C.) – A Georgia Tech commit, Mambu averaged 5.4 kills per set and hit. 305 for the weekend as Metro qualified in 18 Open at OVR in Columbus, Ohio.

OH: Payton Tompkins, 6-0 Sr., Dallas Skyline 18 Black (TX) – Skyline tore through the 18 USA division in Columbus without dropping a set and Tomkins was a catalyst. The six-rotation outside did not come off the court. Head coach David Huynh said that his senior was on point with her serve-receive all tournament long even though she was targeted. She came up with crucial blocks on the right when moved over there, was stellar on digging up hard-driven balls and deep corner tips and made so many good plays…
