GRAND OPENING CEREMONY MARKS COMMENCEMENT OF 2ND ENGRO CAVA VOLLEYBALL NATIONS LEAGUE

Islamabad, Pakistan, May 11, 2024 – The 2nd Engro CAVA Volleyball Nations League kicked off on Saturday with an electrifying opening, featuring two exhilarating matches that set the stage for an action-packed tournament ahead.

In the first match of the day, Iran faced off against Turkmenistan in a fiercely contested battle that went down to the wire. After an intense five-set showdown, Iran emerged victorious with a narrow 3-2 victory, showcasing their resilience and determination on the court.

 

The match ended 23-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 19-17, highlighting the closely contested nature of the encounter. With this win, Iran set a strong foundation for their campaign in the tournament, securing a crucial victory in their opening match.

The excitement continued in the second match of the day, where Sir Lanka and Kyrgyzstan clashed in a thrilling showdown. In another closely contested battle, Kyrgyzstan emerged triumphant with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Sir Lanka.

The match was stretched to five sets which ended 25-27, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20, 15-10), underscoring the intensity and competitive spirit displayed by both teams throughout the match. Kyrgyzstan’s victory set the stage for an exciting journey ahead in the tournament, as they aim to build on their strong start and make their mark on the competition.

Following the gripping matches, the opening ceremony of the Engro CAVA Nations League commenced, bringing together players, officials, and spectators to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and international camaraderie. 

The ceremony commenced with a spectacular march of all participating teams into the arena, symbolizing unity and camaraderie among nations. As the atmosphere brimmed with anticipation, the national anthem of Pakistan echoed through the hall, stirring a sense of patriotism and pride among the attendees.

The ceremony featured captivating performances and speeches, setting the stage for an unforgettable tournament experience.

Ch Muhammad Yaqoob, Chairman of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF), delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude to Engro, CAVA and all participating countries for their invaluable contributions to the tournament. He extended special thanks to the Government of Pakistan for their unwavering support towards the development of sports in the country.
