Des Moines, IA – Grand View women’s volleyball defeats Culver-Stockton in a three-set fashion to open up their long home game stretch with scores of 25-18, 25-15, 31-29.

Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Culver-Stockton College 18

The Vikings started down 0-3 to start the first set, the first kill of the game would come from Rylie Olson (SR/Osage, IA) off of a set from Alesha Johnson (JR/Council Bluffs, IA), making the score 3-1. After another point by the Wildcats, the Vikings would turn things around and go on a 5-0 run to set the score to 6-4. Another run by the Vikings with a sneaky attack from Johnson would force Culver into their first timeout of the match down 12-7. The Vikings would leave no doubt in the remainder of the set keeping their lead by four points or more.

Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Culver-Stockton College 15

In the second set, Grand View was able to jump out to an early lead again following a 5-0 scoring run that saw Peyton Cook (SO/Underwood, IA) with an ace followed up by a kill from teammate Olson at the 6-1 mark. A couple of errors out of Culver’s outside hitters would give the Vikings a comfortable lead putting them up 12-7 after a block duo from Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI) and Ellie Dougherty (FR/Omaha, NE). Back to Back kills from Emily Box (JR/West Point, IA), followed by Olson’s would force the Wildcats into another timeout. The set would eventually end after another set of back-to-back kills by Box and a set error from the opponent.

Set 3: Grand View University 31 l Culver-Stockton College 29

The teams took turns changing kills in the opening serves of the third and final set. Another impressive kill from Johnson tied things up 5-5, and eventually, the Vikings would capitalize off of the Wildcat’s errors, and another Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA) kill to give themselves their first comfortable lead of the set at 12-9. The Vikings would seem comfortable for the downhill of the set, and it would cost them a few points in errors leading to a late rally from CSC and it would force head coach Devon Wells into her first timeout of the match after scores evened at 28s. The Vikings would eventually shake the errors off out of the timeout and come out hot with a box kill, followed up by a monster of a kill from Carey sealing the third nail bitting set in favor of the Vikings.
