Grand View Defeats Missouri Valley in Four Sets

Des Moines, IA – The Grand View women’s volleyball team capped off its home opening weekend with an afternoon contest against conference foe Missouri Valley College on Saturday. The Vikings took care of business and earned their second win of the weekend as they defeated Missouri Valley in four sets with scores of 25-18, 25-20, 24-26, and 25-14.

Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Missouri Valley College 18

Grand View and Missouri Valley began the first set by matching each other point-for-point up to the 10-10 mark. The Grand View offense flipped a switched shortly after and jumped out in front due to a 6-0 scoring runs with kills by Chloe McDermott (FR/Yankton, SD), Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI), and Emily Box (JR/West Point, IA). The Vikings kept up the pace for the remainder of the set and Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA) closed it out by scoring on back-to-back kills putting Grand View up, 1-0.

Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Missouri Valley College 20

In the second set, Grand View went ahead in the early stages with consecutive points on a service ace by Peyton Cook (SO/Underwood, IA) and Rylie Olson (SR/Osage, IA). Missouri Valley chipped away at Grand View’s lead over the middle stages of the set and pulled within one at the 15-14 point. The Vikings never relinquished their lead, however, and kept Missouri Valley at bay for the remainder of the set. Beasley led the offensive attack for Grand View down the closing stretch as she scored three of the final six points.

Set 3: Grand View University 24 l Missouri Valley College 26

The third set saw Grand View fall behind for the first time all afternoon. The Vikings found themselves in a hole following a couple of scoring runs by Missouri Valley, which made the score 13-22. But Grand View was able to completely turn the set around with a 10-0 scoring streak. Unfortunately, the miraculous comeback couldn’t be completed with Missouri Valley responding with a final scoring run of its own to force a fourth set.

Set 4: Grand View University 25 l Missouri Valley College 14

Despite having dropped the previous set, Grand View came out aggressive in the fourth and was in control from the start. The Vikings quickly gained a six-point lead at 10-4 after Carey sent home another kill to continue her good afternoon. A 5-0 scoring streak followed a few points later, which pushed the Grand View out to 10 at the 17-7 mark. From…
