Hagin Reaches Career-High Digs in Win over Widener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team earned their sixth win of the season on Thursday evening as they defeated Widener at home, 3-1. 

Dustin Hagin reached a career-high 17 digs and Ethan Scott tallied 27 assists. Logan Smith led the match with 14 kills and five digs and Alex Finch totaled 13 kills, nine digs, and three blocks. 

The first set started with Widener in the lead, 6-4 after a kill and an ace. Through the next few points the two teams went back and forth before Etown tied up the set, 9-9. Two straight kills from Finch put the Blue Jays out in front, 13-12. After some more back-n-forth, Elizabethtown went on a 6-1 run extending their lead to 22-16. The Pride and Blue Jays ended the set trading points with Etown coming out on top, 25-19. 

Widener was again out in front to start set two as they held a 5-3 lead. After three straight Blue Jay errors, the Pride jumped to a 9-5 lead and then pulled out to a 13-7 lead. A kill from Mason Boyer and Finch brought Etown within four. After four points in a row, the Blue Jays came just within two of the Pride at 16-14. Three errors in a row committed by Widener tied up the set, 17-17. The Blue Jays then rattled off five straight to lead 22-19 and would come out with a 26-24 win as Smith, Nick Chapman, and Cody Boyer contributed points down the stretch. 

The third set saw Elizabethtown come out with an 8-5 lead. A kill from Smith and Chapman pulled them ahead, 10-7. Widener then gained momentum tallying four straight points to take over the lead, 13-11. The Pride took charge near the end of the set as…
