Hawai’i Sweeps Stanford – Stanford University Athletics

HONOLULU – No. 5 Stanford was held to a season-low hitting percentage as it dropped a 27-25, 25-7, 25-20 decision to No. 3 Hawai’i, Friday, at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawai’i (10-1) was nearly unstoppable offensively, hitting .594 as a team (44-3-69), while Stanford (7-3) was plagued by 19 hitting errors, resulting in a .146 attack percentage. The Cardinal finished with 31 kills, 20 digs and 2.0 blocks. Both teams had five aces.

Sophomore outside hitter Alex Rottman returned to the starting lineup on Friday, leading the Cardinal with 10 kills on .231 hitting and six digs.

 



Setter Nathan Lietzke totaled 25 assists, two digs and an ace. The fifth-year was also in on both of Stanford’s blocks on the night.

Opposite Moses Wagner registered eight kills and a career-high three aces. Middle blocker Nathaniel Gates hit .571 with four kills on seven errorless swings, while outside hitter Kevin Lamp finished with five kills and three digs in two sets played.
