TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona beach volleyball head coach Steve Walker has announced the addition of Austin Hosto to the coaching staff as a second assistant coach. Hosto has ties to the University of Arizona and the beach volleyball program going back nearly a decade.
“Austin has been with the program in a number of ways dating back to our inaugural season, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring him back as our second assistant coach,” Walker said. “He has coached numerous collegiate and high school All-Americans and has shown the ability to break down and teach the skills at a very high level. I know and trust our student-athletes will really benefit from having such a terrific teacher of the game on staff. Even better, Austin is such a quality person; and I know he will be able to reach and connect with all of our student-athletes and support staff members on so many levels.”
Hosto joins the Wildcats staff after serving as the head coach of Arizona Premier Volleyball Club the past three years, where he led multiple age groups and one of the lead coaches with the club. He was also a head coach, camp lead and social media coordinator for Zona Volleyball Club in Tucson since 2021, coaching regional and travel teams while also developing programming, camp sessions, practice plans and instructional content.
“I am thrilled to return to Arizona Beach Volleyball,” Hosto said. “I’m thankful that Coach Walker has continued to give me an opportunity with this program and to grow in a culture of excellence. It’s good to be home at Bear Down Beach.”
Prior his work with Arizona Premier Volleyball Club and Zona Volleyball Club, Hosto was an assistant coach for the indoor volleyball team at Wichita State for three seasons. He helped the Shockers earn the No. 16 overall seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and coached the 2017 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Setter of the Year as well as the 2019 AAC Libero of the Year.
He was a volunteer assistant coach with Walker and the Wildcats during the 2017 beach volleyball season and was a student manager with the team starting with the first practice the program ever had in 2014 through the 2015 season.
