Hungary rallied from a set down to win 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18) over Slovenia on Saturday and claim the gold medal of the 2022 Sitting Volleyball European Championship Men’s Division B in Rouen, France.
Hungary and Slovenia both secured spots in next year’s European Championship in Italy, along with Latvia, who triumphed 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-20) against Great Britain in the bronze medal match.
The finalists also met on the first day of competition, where the Hungarians also produced a 3-1 (25-23, 26-24, 21-25, 25-21) winning scoreline over the Slovenians. Then topped their succeeding opponents Czech Republic in four sets, and Italy, France and Great Britain in straight sets heading into the final.
Meanwhile, Robert Kertesz of Hungary was named Most Valuable Player and Best Attacker, leading Rouen 2022’s Best Players, namely Hungary’s Ferenc Szekely (Best Server), Great Britain’s Justin Philips (Best Receiver), Latvia’s Vjaceslavs Grimajlovs (Best Setter) and Slovenia’s Matic Kerzan (Best Blocker).
