TUCSON, Ariz. —  The season came to a close for the Husky beach volleyball team today, as the Dawgs worked their way back into their Pac-12 Championship match with Arizona State, but one last set that UW needed to potentially swing things was taken by the Sun Devils to complete a 3-0 win. The Huskies had forced third sets on two courts and were trying to do the same on a third to give them a path to a comeback win.

Washington, seeded seventh in the tournament, matches its seeding with a seventh-place finish, despite the Huskies playing without two of their top contributors this weekend. The Husky season comes to a close with a record of 12-20. The twelve wins under first-year Head Coach Derek Olson are the second-most for the Dawgs in program history, behind the 14 wins of the 2018 squad.

Sixth-seed ASU took all five of the first sets this morning but the Dawgs dug in. At the No. 1 spot, Natalie Robinson and Scarlett Dahl had a 18-21 first set loss but then won set two, 21-16, over Flood/Sweeney. Kyra Petersen and Emma Calle came back from a 15-21 first set loss to win the second set, 21-18, and they led the third, 4-0, over ASU’s Fitzgerald/Wickley, on court four. On court three, Ashley Shook and Hannah Yerex dropped set one, 13-21, but had three set points in the second set at 20-17 against Waters/Kael to try and get a third match turned around. But Waters/Kael saved all three set points and then moved ahead, ultimately winning it, 23-21, which stopped the remaining two matches.

The first two points came at two and five. At No. 2, ASU’s Bordis/Pemberton held off Maeve Griffin and Audra Wilmes, 21-13, 21-17. New addition to the active roster, Mia Savoldelli, in just her second day of action, and Olivia Mikkelsen, had a 21-12, 21-11 loss at No. 5 against Salazar/Ames.
