SEATTLE – A difficult night for the Husky volleyball team saw the Dawgs fall in straight sets at Matthew Knight Arena against 16th-ranked Oregon. Marin Grote had 10 kills for UW but the Huskies (16-7, 8-5 Pac-12) hit a season-low .152 on offense while Oregon’s .402 percentage was the highest for a Husky opponent this year.
It added up to the second straight set loss of the season for the Huskies, 25-13, 25-19, 25-18. The teams split the season series but the Dawgs were missing Emoni Bush for the third-straight match. Bush had provided 14 kills in the earlier five set win in Seattle. It’s the first time this season the Huskies have lost consecutive matches.
“Not being able to physically match up on the defensive side of the ball was the most frustrating thing,” said Head Coach Keegan Cook. “At this stage we’ve been through a lot of adversity and we’re down some bodies and doing the best we can, but it just seemed like physically we weren’t able to hang at the net or behind it, so it’s hard to create momentum or scoring runs when you’re not able to slow things down.”
“I didn’t see any quit, just because we didn’t take a set or the scores weren’t competitive. I saw intent and I saw effort. Our opponents were excellent today and we just weren’t able to physically keep up.”
