SEATTLE — The second half of Pac-12 play starts this weekend for the Husky volleyball team as UW looks to treat its fans to a couple big home wins before going back on the road. First on Friday the Huskies look for the season sweep of California in a 7 p.m. match televised on Pac-12 Networks Washington. Then on Sunday, Oct. 30, the Dawgs will try to put more than a scare into the Pac-12 leading 8th-ranked Cardinal of Stanford, in a Dig-or-Treat-themed match with candy for children in costume and a costume contest. Sunday’s match starts at 2 p.m. and will also air on Pac-12 Networks.

19th-ranked Washington is 7-3 through the first ten matches of conference play, now two games behind the Cardinal, and tied for third with Oregon and Washington State. The Huskies had a frustrating five set loss last week at home to Arizona State, but bounced back quickly with a sweep of Arizona where they hit over .400. When the Dawgs hit above .250 they are 13-0 this season, but under that mark they are just 2-5. Senior Ella May Powell moved into fifth in Pac-12 history in career assists last week, now with 5,785, and she is one ace from tying Sanja Tomasevic for the program record.

California has yet to win a Pac-12 match this season, yet the Bears took a set off second-place USC last week so they remain dangerous. In that match with the Trojans, the Bears served 10 aces, and Leah Schmidt had 15 kills and hit .483. Lydia Grote, sister of UW senior Marin, leads the Bears with 3.68 kills per set. Sophie Scott is posting 1.11 blocks per set and libero Tara DeSa is posting 4.01 blocks per set. The Huskies won the first match in Berkeley on Oct. 2 in a sweep, with a .395 attack percentage.

Stanford swept USC behind a remarkable .605 team hitting percentage last Sunday to break a tie atop the league. The Cardinal’s one loss was a sweep at Oregon. The Huskies took the first set off Stanford in Palo Alto but lost the next three to snap a five match win streak over the Cardinal. Madi Endsley suffered what proved to be a…
