Huskies Off To Pac-12 Championships In Tucson

SEATTLE — The Beach Dawgs are off to the Pac-12 Championships this week, where they will look to make a run and pull off an upset or two along the way. As the No. 7 seed in the nine team field, the Huskies start Wednesday, Apr. 27, against No. 2-seed UCLA at 10:15 a.m. at Arizona’s Bear Down Beach.

Every match of the tournament, which goes Wednesday through Friday, will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks. The tournament is a double-elimination format so UW would need to upset the Bruins on Wednesday or else it will play a second match later in the day.

Washington comes in with an 11-18 record, and a 4-11 mark against conference opponents. The Dawgs have faced every Pac-12 team at least once, going 0-1 against Arizona, 0-2 against Arizona State, 1-1 against California, 2-2 against Oregon, 0-3 against Stanford, 0-1 against UCLA, 0-1 against USC, and 1-0 against Utah.

The Dawgs have pulled a couple big upsets this season, and will look to strike again at Pac-12s. Washington has wins over then-No. 11 Cal and then-No. 8 Hawaii to its name this season. From 2016-18 at the Pac-12 Championships, the Huskies outperformed their seeding each year, advancing to the semifinals with a best finish of third in 2017.

UW has been led all season by its No. 1 duo of Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robinson, who are 18-9 at the No. 1 spot. The 18 dual match wins are one short of the single season UW record of 19 set by Shayne McPherson and Carly DeHoog. Robinson now has 45 career victories, third-most in school history, and Loreen has 44 career wins, tied for the fourth-most. Robinson’s 39 career dual wins are also fourth-most at UW. Junior Scarlett Dahl, who is third on the team this year with 12 wins, now has 27 overall wins for her career which puts her tied for ninth.
